COVID-19 Friendly! A Gyoza Store With No Staff?! ‘Yukimatsu Gyoza’

This post is also available in: ja日本語 (Japanese)

‘Yukimatsu Gyoza’ is a gyoza place with no staff! It follows a trust system, where you put a 1000 yen note in a designated box and walk away with your gyoza! One gyoza pack comes with a whopping 18 gyoza! For 1000 yen, that equates to less than 6 yen per gyoza!

How To Buy Your Gyoza:

Step 1: Take out however many packs that you would like to purchase from the freezer.

Step 2: If you would like some sauce to put on the gyoza, grab a bottle from the fridge as seen in the picture below. We highly recommend that you do as we believe that it tastes even better with the sauce!

Each bottle is 200 yen, so if you decide to take a bottle, please put 200 yen in the designated box when you pay at the end (see step 3).

Step 3: Insert the total amount you owe into the box with red arrows (as seen on the bottom left of the photo above). Plastic bags can be taken for free, but we highly recommend that you bring your own bag to help the environment.

Step 4: Walk out with your gyoza and fry them up at home or your accommodation! Frying them up takes less than 10 minutes!

What’s the best way to cook them?

Step 1: Boil 100 ml of water

Step 2: Pour 30 ml of oil into a frying pan. Wait 1 minute for the frying pan to heat up.

Step 3: Turn off the heat and put the gyoza in the frying pan, ensuring that there is space between each gyoza (so that they don’t stick together).

Step 4: Pour 100 ml of boiling water over the gyoza.

Step 5: Immediately place a lid on the frying pan and allow the gyoza to steam on medium heat for 6 to 7 minutes.

Step 6: Take off the lid and allow the water to evaporate from the pan. Once the gyoza have turned a light brown on the bottom, turn off the heat and serve!
