Read on if you answer ‘yes’ to any of these questions:
- Are you an avid bread lover?
- Would you like to learn how to make the best Australian meat pie or some mouthwatering cinnamon rolls?
Well you need to meet Phil Tester – a charismatic baker and English teacher from Melbourne, Australia who hosts an impressive variety of baking classes every month in the Numazu area!
With ten plus years of experience, Phil started working in a bakery at the age of 18, and continues his passion of baking through teaching people who want to learn a new skill set. He has high hopes to connect people from all around the world and bring a positive experience for all who partake in the community.
Wandie Bakery opened in May of 2017, and hosts events on average twice a month.
Our interview with Phil
Andy: “So what made you decide you wanted to start hosting baking classes in the Numazu area?”
Phil: “About a year ago, I ran a bakery in Kyoto for a day with a friend of mine, and we literally sold out all of the things we made. I really enjoyed seeing people that were happy with the finished product, and it’s then when I really dug this line of work.”
Andy: “What is your core and high hopes for Wandie Bakery?”
Phil: “People are generally happy when they can feed their mind, body, and soul, so I want to bring something positive for the community. If I can make people happy, I want to make that happen. It’s a fundamental goal for Wandie Bakery that I want to share”
Andy: “What are your future goals for Wandie?”
Phil: “I’d like to continue using Cafe&Space Hotori twice a month and eventually, use other spaces as well. I have an idea in mind where students can partake in a 5 to 10 week program where they can learn how to bake bread, cakes, pies, pastries, and other foreign foods. Hopefully I can have a building where there would be a cafe operating downstairs and a second floor which can be used for a variety of classes.”
Andy: “Awesome! Thanks for sharing Wandie Bakery with us!”
Phil: “Yeah, all good mate! Come swing over!”
The current location of Wandie Bakery is in Cafe&Space Hotori.
